Professor Michael Bryant is the Chair of Tribology and Corrosion Engineering at the University of Birmingham’s School of Engineering. His research focuses on multi-scale aspects of tribology, materials characterisation, and mechano-chemical interactions at material interfaces, with applications in biomedical and energy sectors. He holds a BEng (Hons) and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds.
Research Interests:
- Tribology and corrosion mitigation
- Bio-tribology and bio-corrosion
- Surface chemical effects in energy production
- Advanced testing methodologies with in-situ techniques
Awards: Recipient of the 2018 IMechE Duncan Dowson Prize and Sir Thomas Hawksley Gold Medal. Current Researcher in Residence at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, Sheffield.
Funding: Principal or Co-Investigator on grants from EPSRC, Wellcome Trust, Royal Society, EU H2020, and Industry (> £20 million).
