Michael Bruce is a tenured Associate Professor and Department Chair of Journalism and Creative Media at the University of Alabama. He also serves as Director of the UA Digital Media Center, overseeing WVUA-TV and Alabama Public Radio. Previously, he spent 13 years at Oklahoma Baptist University in the Division of Communication Arts.

His research focuses on risk and crisis communication, particularly in Arab media contexts. He is also a creative scholar, co-directing the feature documentary Do Right: The Stallings Standard, and has over 200 live television directing credits in sports and events. His teaching includes graduate research methods and sports media.
Bruce chairs the Council of Communication Associations and served as President of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Board (2017–2018). He has held leadership roles on university committees, including the undergraduate curriculum committee and production committee.
