Michael Bowden

Dr Michael Bowden is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Westmead Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. His research addresses critical areas of youth mental health, including suicidality, emergency psychiatry, climate-related mental health impacts, and interventions for acute psychiatric presentations in pediatric populations.

His publications demonstrate strong focus on evidence-based interventions for child/adolescent mental health crises, climate-mental health interactions (particularly heatwaves and suicidality), and improving inpatient psychiatric care. Recent work analyzes COVID-19's impact on youth self-harm presentations and systemic approaches to reducing seclusion in psychiatric units.

Awards and funded projects include investigations into homesickness impacts, early psychosis interventions, and mental health service innovations. His clinical work integrates with research through Westmead Hospital's child psychiatry services.
