Michael Blanchard serves as an Adjunct Instructor of English and Editor of SLANT at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). He joined UCA’s Department of English in 2018, contributing to teaching and editorial roles. His academic background includes a B.A. from the University of Virginia (Echols Scholar, Phi Beta Kappa), an M.A. from Indiana University, and additional graduate study at UNC Chapel Hill.
Blanchard has taught at institutions including Troy University, UNC Chapel Hill, and the University of Louisiana, where he earned the Ingalls Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching. His research focuses on poetry and creative writing, with notable publications including four poetry collections: Naming the Silence (2017), And the Mountain Replied (2019), Stones in the Path (2020), and The Pearl Diver’s Daughter (2021). These works explore lyrical depth, existential themes, and innovative structures, earning critical acclaim such as a nomination for the Patricia Goedicke Award.
As SLANT editor, Blanchard curates contemporary American poetry, building on his editorial experience with Epos at Troy University. His awards include two University Union Fine Arts Poetry Awards and recognition for teaching excellence. Blanchard’s career bridges academic instruction, creative output, and literary curation in the humanities.
