Michael Bjorge serves as a PartTime Lecturer in the Department of History at Dalhousie University, specializing in Canadian labor history, political economy, and 20th-century social movements. His research examines worker resistance during World War II, anti-foreign sentiment, and internment camp dynamics.
He holds a BA (Honours) from the University of Alberta, an MA from Queen's University, and a PhD from Queen's University.
Dr. Bjorge's scholarly work consistently analyzes intersections of class, race, and nationalism in historical contexts. Key publications explore the Edmonton General Strike, Japanese Canadian internment resistance, wartime labor struggles against 'enemy aliens,' and transnational solidarity campaigns like the Sacco and Vanzetti movement. His forthcoming monograph The Workers’ War: Economic Democracy and Canada’s Industrial Homefront, 1939-1945 (University of Toronto Press) extends this focus on economic democracy during wartime.
Recent publications reveal a cohesive trajectory examining marginalized groups' agency in shaping historical outcomes, particularly through direct action and solidarity networks within Canadian industrial and social landscapes.
While no current advising relationships or grant projects are specified, his active publication record and teaching responsibilities—including Winter 2025 office hours—demonstrate ongoing academic engagement.
