Michael Bergen serves as Adjunct Associate Professor and Director of the Davidow Speech-Language Hearing Center (SLHC) at Brooklyn College, part of the City University of New York system. He has been employed by Brooklyn College since 1994 and played a key role in launching the CUNY Doctor of Audiology (AuD) Program. Bergen oversees operations of the SLHC, which supports three academic programs: the B.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders, the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, and the doctoral Au.D program in Audiology.

Bergen's research focuses on clinical audiology, supervision counseling, early intervention in speech-language pathology, and diversity in communication sciences. His work addresses critical issues including workforce development, interprofessional practice, clinical assessment methodologies, and accessibility for diverse populations. He has particular expertise in hearing conservation, diagnostic audiology, and the intersection of communication disorders with public safety interactions.
His recent publications demonstrate growing emphasis on early intervention specialization, diversity initiatives in communication sciences education, and technological innovations in audiology assessment. Bergen has increasingly focused on workforce development challenges and interdisciplinary approaches to address shortages in the field.

As Director of the SLHC for over 20 years, Bergen leads a team of licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists who provide clinical services while supporting academic programs. The center serves as a training ground for students and a resource for Brooklyn communities.
