Michael Bailey

Michael Bailey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the Coordinated Science Laboratory. He holds a BS (1992), MS (1994), and PhD (2006) in Computer Science from the University of Illinois, DePaul University, and University of Michigan, respectively.

His research focuses on security and performance of distributed systems, including networking protocols, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. He has taught courses such as Introduction to Computer Security (ECE 422/CS 461) and Computer Systems Engineering (ECE 391), advising over 138+ students in these courses.

His work has been recognized through awards including the IETF Applied Networking Research Prize (2015), Best Paper at IMC 2014, and multiple teaching excellence rankings. Key contributions include studies on HTTPS certificate ecosystems, IPv6 adoption metrics, and mitigating NTP-based DDoS attacks.
