Michael Allen is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Mathematics at Tennessee Tech. He has been a faculty member since 1999, previously serving as an Assistant Professor at the College of Charleston (1997–1999). He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics from Tennessee Tech (1989 and 1991, respectively), a PhD in Statistics from the University of Georgia (1997), and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Tech (2011).
His research focuses on time series analysis, bootstrapping, spatial statistics, fractional calculus, and material properties of composite materials. He has published extensively in these areas. Beyond academia, his hobbies include whitewater canoeing, sailing, amateur radio, electronics, woodworking, 3D printing, and more. He is also an Aquatics Instructor in Scouts.
Dr. Allen teaches probability and statistics courses and is often found in campus labs conducting experiments. His office is located in Bruner 219.
