Michael A. Tevald is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at Arcadia University. He holds a PhD in Physiology from Virginia Commonwealth University (2005), an MS in Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware (1997), and a BA in Biological Sciences from the same institution (1995). His research focuses on muscle physiology in aging and chronic diseases, including the impact of lung transplantation on skeletal muscle function, heart failure effects on muscle microcirculation, and balance in older adults. Dr. Tevald collaborates with the Lung Transplant Team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and has secured funding from the American Heart Association and the Foundation for Physical Therapy. He previously served on the faculty at the University of Toledo and currently chairs the Department of Physical Therapy at Arcadia.

His research interests bridge clinical and physiological domains, emphasizing translational studies to improve outcomes for aging populations. He is actively involved in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), serving as Treasurer of the Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy. Prior to academia, he practiced clinically at the National Rehabilitation Center and Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.
