Michael A. Repka

Dr. Michael A. Repka is the Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutics & Drug Delivery and Director of the PII Center for Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. He specializes in hot-melt extrusion (HME), 3D printing, and melt granulation for advanced drug delivery systems, focusing on pediatric, geriatric, and special needs populations. His research emphasizes enhancing drug solubility and bioavailability, particularly for poorly soluble drugs.

Education: B.S. in Pharmacy (University of Texas at Austin, 1976), Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (University of Texas at Austin, 2000), and D.D.S. (University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 1981).

Research interests include patient-centric delivery systems, novel manufacturing techniques, and polymeric drug delivery design. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed articles and serves on editorial boards of prominent journals, including AAPS PharmSciTech. Notable awards include the Ralph Shangraw Memorial Award (2023) and the University of Mississippi’s Distinguished Research Award.

Dr. Repka has presented >80 invited talks globally on HME and 3D printing. His work spans formulations like mucoadhesive buccal films, 3D-printed tablets, and colon-targeted implants. The PII Center for Pharmaceutical Technology, under his leadership, drives innovation in pharmaceutical technology and advanced manufacturing.
