Dr. Michael A. Moodian is a Lecturer in the Department of Leadership Studies at the Attallah College of Educational Studies, Chapman University, where he has served since 2007. He teaches in the leadership studies minor and the Master of Arts in Leadership Development program. In 2023, he received the Richard L. Resurreccion Outstanding Educator Award for his contributions to education.
His research and professional work span leadership, intercultural competence, sustainability, and environmental communication. He co-founded the Orange County Sustainability Decathlon and co-directs the Orange County Annual Survey at Wilkinson College. His work bridges academia and public engagement through media and policy.
Dr. Moodian produced the award-winning PBS documentary Coastal Crisis: California's Vanishing Beaches (2022), which investigates coastal erosion and won the Real Orange Award, a Telly Award, and the Best of Festival Award at the Los Angeles Television, Script and Film Festival. His scholarship has been presented nationally and internationally, and his 2009 book Contemporary Leadership and Intercultural Competence has influenced national learning standards.

He has held significant public service roles, including being appointed by Governors Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom to the California Commission on Judicial Performance, where he served as vice chair (2020–2023) and chair (2023–2025). He is also a member of the Providence Mission Hospital board. The Orange County Register named him one of the 125 Most Influential People in Orange County for 2021–2023.
Dr. Moodian earned his Doctorate in Education from Pepperdine University and holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Communications and Sociology from California State University, Fullerton. He is actively engaged in community service, including youth sports coaching and leadership in the San Juan Capistrano Little League.
