Michael A. Forbes

Michael A. Forbes is an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the Department of Computer Science within the College of Engineering. His research focuses on algebraic and geometric complexity theory, pseudorandomness, and computational complexity.

He has been awarded the NSF CAREER Award to support his research aims in algebraic and geometric complexity theory. In 2024, he received the Best Paper Award at the Computational Complexity Conference for his work on algebraic circuit lower bounds.

Forbes teaches advanced courses such as CS 473: Algorithms, CS 579: Computational Complexity, and specialized topics courses like Algebraic & Geometric Complexity Theory and Pseudorandomness.
