Micah E. Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law & Policy at the University of South Florida. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Florida and completed a NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship in Epidemiology at the same institution. His research focuses on social stress, addiction, and juvenile justice, with particular emphasis on poly-substance misuse, trauma, and social disadvantage. He has secured over $4 million in research funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and received the 2023 USF Outstanding Research Award.

Research Interests: Dr. Johnson investigates how social stressors, trauma, and systemic inequities impact substance misuse and treatment outcomes among justice-involved adolescents. His work integrates quantitative and qualitative methods to explore mechanisms linking social status to drug use trajectories and service accessibility.
Current Projects: The NIH-funded ESPRESSO project examines stress processes linking ethnicity, sex, and substance misuse outcomes in justice-involved youth. Findings highlight disparities in recovery capital and service quality.
