Miaoyuan Liu is an Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Purdue University. Their research focuses on fundamental particle physics using data from the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), with an emphasis on searching for beyond-Standard-Model particles like supersymmetric candidates and precision measurements of the Higgs potential. They also pioneer applications of machine learning in collider data acquisition and detector upgrades, including leading the CMS forward pixel detector Phase 1 upgrade.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, Duke University, 2015
Research Interests: Dr. Liu’s work spans experimental particle physics, novel machine learning techniques for real-time data processing, and detector development for the HL-LHC era. Key areas include multi-boson processes, precision Higgs measurements, and advancing computational infrastructure for high-luminosity physics.
Grants & Collaborations:
- Funded by DOE Award DE-SC0007884 and NSF Award 2117997 (A3D3 Institute)
- Leadership in US.CMS software and computing operations
- Collaborations include CMS and ATLAS experiments
Labs & Teams: Member of the Fast Machine Learning Lab and the NSF A3D3 Institute. Active in semiconductor tracker development for CMS upgrades.
