Dr. Miaomiao Liu is an NHMRC Research Fellow at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science, affiliated with the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery (GRIDD) and the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics. She holds dual PhDs from Griffith University and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, specializing in natural product chemistry under Professors Ronald J. Quinn and Lixin Zhang. Her research focuses on using native mass spectrometry (MS) to study protein-ligand interactions, particularly in drug discovery for diseases like tuberculosis and malaria. Dr. Liu has secured over $4.5 million in research funding, including an NHMRC Investigator Grant (2024–2028) and a JSPS Fellowship (2022–2023) in Japan.
Her research interests include target identification via native MS, ligand discovery for membrane proteins, and PROTAC-induced ternary complex analysis. She has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles and 2 patents, contributing to breakthroughs in antiviral and antimicrobial drug development. Dr. Liu also leads teaching in analytical chemistry and supervises doctoral students in drug discovery projects. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the Griffith Vice Chancellor's Gala Award for Internationalisation (2022) and the GRIDD Mid-Career Researcher Excellence (2022).
