Dr. Mia Jovanova is the Scientific Director of the CSS Health Lab at the School of Medicine, University of St. Gallen (HSG) and ETH Zurich, and Core Director of Digital Biomarkers in Metabolic Health at the Centre for Digital Health Interventions. She teaches digital biomarker development and applied data analytics at CAS ETH in Digital Health.
- Education: PhD (2023) and MA (2018) in Communication Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania; BSc (2017) from Cornell University.
Her research focuses on digital biomarker development using wearable technologies (e.g., continuous glucose monitors, smartwatches) for metabolic health, integrating neuroscience, machine learning, and behavioral interventions. She specializes in person-specific modeling, longitudinal mobile sampling, and clinical trial design.
Recent publications emphasize glucose variability analysis, neural mechanisms of social influence on alcohol use, and digital health innovation in diabetes ecosystems. She employs dense sampling methods combining neuroimaging and real-time behavioral data to study addiction, affect regulation, and health behavior change.
