Mette Mogensen

Mette Mogensen is a Clinical Associate Professor in Dermato-Venereology at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. She simultaneously serves as Chief Consultant in Dermatology at Bispebjerg Hospital, University Hospitals of Copenhagen, where she heads the section of Connective Tissue and Autoimmune Skin Disease and provides online teledermatology services in Arctic Greenland.

Dr. Mogensen's research centers on non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of skin diseases using optical imaging technologies, with particular emphasis on keratinocyte carcinomas. Her expertise spans in vivo confocal microscopy, optical coherence tomography, and capillaroscopy for imaging skin cancer, targeted drug delivery, acne treatment using nanoparticles, wound healing, and connective tissue diseases. She leads the Connective Tissue Disease Clinic at Bispebjerg Hospital, collaborating extensively with rheumatologists on SLE, dermatomyositis, and systemic sclerosis.

Her recent publications reveal a strong interdisciplinary focus on melanoma diagnosis using advanced imaging techniques, Fabry disease manifestations, autoimmune skin conditions, and treatment innovations for psoriatic arthritis. The research demonstrates significant collaboration across dermatology, rheumatology, and medical engineering fields, with emphasis on developing practical bedside diagnostic tools for skin cancer and autoimmune disorders.

Her research has been funded by Kræftens Bekæmpelse (Danish Cancer Society), Bispebjerg Hospital Research Foundation, Vissing Foundation, and multiple other organizations. She serves on the research council at Center for Translational Research at Bispebjerg University Hospital and participates in assessment committees for academic positions.

She manages an independent research group conducting clinical diagnostic trials on skin cancer and autoimmune skin diseases, working closely with DTU Compute and the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. She is the Danish PI in an international discoid lupus study and serves on the Advisory Board for the Horizon Europe project SEQUOIA on quantum optical coherence tomography with AI.
