Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Karaaziz serves as Associate Professor and dual Department Head (Clinical Psychology & Psychology) at Near East University, where she has held faculty positions since 2012. Her career progression spans Research Assistant (2012-2018), Assistant Professor (2018-2021), and current Associate Professor (2021-present) with continuous leadership in department administration.
Educational background:
- Bachelor of Psychology (English) from Near East University (2012), graduating first in Faculty of Arts and Sciences
- Master of Applied Clinical Psychology (2014) with thesis ‘Violence against Women and Psychopathology’ (4.00 GPA)
- PhD in General Psychology (2017) with thesis ‘Gambling Addiction, Its Causes, and the Impact of Culture’
Her research critically examines Addiction Psychology through cultural lenses, with significant contributions to understanding pathological gambling and substance dependence. Clinical expertise spans trauma treatment (EMDR), transcultural family therapy, and violence against women interventions. She maintains active client practice across depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and addiction while leading departmental operations.
