Mertxe Larrañaga is a Professor of Economics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), specializing in feminist economics and international development. She teaches International Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business and contributes to master's programs in related fields. Her research focuses on gender equity, development cooperation, and participatory approaches to local human development. She has co-authored numerous publications and co-edited influential works like Cooperation and Local Human Development: Challenges from Gender Equity (2011).
Education: Holds a PhD in Economics (2000) from UPV/EHU, with a thesis on women's labor market dynamics in the Basque Country.
Research Interests: Feminist economic theories, social solidarity economy, gender mainstreaming in development policies, and the intersection of gender and conflict studies. She critiques capitalist systems and advocates for emancipatory economic frameworks.
Advising: Supervised doctoral theses including Michela Accerenzi's Body Politics, Menstruation, and Development Cooperation (2023) and Ana Moreno Regaña's work on transnational energy policy networks (2018).
