Merlin Alvarado Morales

Merlin Alvarado Morales is a Senior Researcher at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), with affiliations to the KT Consortium and PROSYS - Process and Systems Engineering Centre. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from DTU (2010) and has been a Postdoc researcher since 2011, focusing on bioenergy and biorefinery processes.

His research spans biochemical process design, second- and third-generation biofuels, anaerobic digestion, and sustainable solvent development. He has contributed to over 105 publications, including studies on biogas upgrading, microbial electrosynthesis, and waste valorization. Key areas of expertise include mathematical modeling, life cycle assessment (LCA), and process simulation strategies.

Dr. Morales has supervised multiple PhD projects, including advanced sensitivity analysis in process design, succinic acid production from wastewater, and anaerobic digestion modeling. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
