Merim Bilalić is a Professor at Northumbria University's Department of Psychology. Previously holding the Chair in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Klagenfurt, he has held academic positions at Humboldt University, Brunel University, and University of Tübingen. He completed his diploma in Psychology at the University of Sarajevo and earned a DPhil in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on cognitive psychology, expertise development, and decision-making processes in sports and chess contexts.
Key research interests include neuroimaging of perceptual-cognitive expertise, the role of grit in athletic success, and the impact of environmental factors like home advantage in sports. He has supervised PhD candidates such as Egle Harding, exploring the Einstellung effect in decision-making.
