Meredith McGinley is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Psychology, Professional Counseling, and Neuroscience Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2008), following a B.A. (2002) and M.A. (2004) from Lebanon Valley College and Nebraska-Lincoln, respectively. Her expertise spans prosocial behavior, parenting, cultural influences, advanced quantitative methods, and social/emotional development.
Her research investigates how social, cultural, and individual factors shape empathy, prosocial behaviors, and mental health outcomes across the lifespan. Key themes include the impact of victimization, workplace harassment, and stress on anxiety, depression, and alcohol misuse. She also evaluates measurement tools and serves as a statistical consultant for NIH-funded longitudinal studies on well-being in children, adolescents, and working adults.
Prior roles include Visiting Assistant Professorships at Northern Illinois University and the University of Illinois at Chicago, alongside adjunct positions at Chatham University and North Central College. Her work emphasizes culturally-responsive frameworks, particularly for immigrant populations and marginalized groups.
Publications span over 40 peer-reviewed articles in developmental, clinical, and quantitative psychology journals, focusing on prosocial development, parenting styles, and workplace health. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary research on cross-cultural positive youth development and mental health disparities.
