Meredith Deegan is a Clinical Instructor and Director of the Clinical Learning Center at the VCU School of Nursing, Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems. She holds a D.N.P. from Johns Hopkins University, an M.S.N. from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. in Healthcare Studies and Spanish from the University of Richmond. Her professional service includes membership in the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society (Beta Kappa Chapter, UVA).
Her research focuses on bridging education and practice for novice nurses through simulation, enhancing competency validation in inpatient units, and fostering healthier work environments via transformational leadership. She also addresses acute care challenges in pandemic settings and improves post-discharge quality of life for Heart Failure patients. Deegan has coordinated education in diverse clinical areas (e.g., oncology, neurology, cardiology) and taught community/public health courses on infectious disease epidemiology and outbreak management.
Her recent articles highlight simulation’s role in nursing student success and the innovative use of virtual reality in nursing education. She combines clinical expertise with leadership to advance educational practices and patient care outcomes.
