Mengyao Li

Mengyao Li is an Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology at Georgia Institute of Technology. She directs the Hybrid Intelligence (HI) Lab, focusing on human-AI teaming (HAT), trust dynamics, and sociotechnical systems. Her research integrates communication, cooperation, and coevolution between humans and AI, emphasizing safety-critical domains like autonomous vehicles and conversational robotics.

Research Interests:

Dr. Li investigates trust in human-AI interactions, including trust estimation via machine learning, goal alignment through game theory, and long-term trust dynamics using trajectory epistemic network analysis. Her work addresses challenges in automated vehicles, conversational agents, and hybrid societal systems. She emphasizes practical applications such as safety policies, sustainable behavior interventions, and human-robot collaboration.

Advising & Grants:

She mentors Ph.D., master’s, and undergraduate students in her HI Lab. Recent grants include funding from GTRI for trust contagion studies in multi-human-AI teams. Her lab has produced notable work on trust measurement, cooperative dynamics, and human-Automation interaction, with publications at HFES, IEEE ITSC, and AAAI workshops.

Her Hybrid Intelligence Lab explores human-AI symbiosis, with current projects on trust repair, sustainable behavior design, and multi-UAV team dynamics.
