Dr Mengdie Zhuang is a Lecturer in Data Science at the University of Sheffield's Information School, part of the School of Information, Journalism and Communication. She holds a PhD in Information Retrieval from the University of Sheffield and previously served as a Research Associate at UCL's Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (UCL CASA). Her research focuses on human-AI interaction, data visualization, digital health, and user engagement in information systems.
Her work addresses challenges in healthcare technology, human mobility analysis, and interactive information retrieval. Notable contributions include frameworks for healthcare dashboard evaluation and studies on pandemic-era human mobility patterns. She has secured funding through the EPSRC Digital Health Hub for AMR (£4.19M) and published extensively in top journals like Nature Medicine and IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on data visualization (INF4000), big data analytics (INF6032), and data communication (INF114). Her interdisciplinary approach bridges computer science, healthcare, and social sciences, with a focus on practical applications of AI and data science in real-world contexts.
