Melynda Price is a Professor of Women and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan and Director of the Institute for Research on Women and Gender. She holds a courtesy Professor title and is affiliated with the Department of Political Science. Previously, she served as the inaugural J. David Rosenberg Professor of Law and John and Joan Gaines Professor of Humanities at the University of Kentucky, where she was also Director of the UK Gaines Center for the Humanities. In 2017, she was honored as a University Research Professor by the University of Kentucky for outstanding research achievements.

Her research focuses on race, law, gender, citizenship, the politics of punishment, and the legal and political dimensions of monuments and memorials. She co-leads the Mellon-funded Monument Workshop at the University of Kentucky, an interdisciplinary project addressing monuments and memorialization. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, law publications, and literary journals, and she has served as a panel reviewer for national research foundations.
Notable recognitions include a 2016-2017 fellowship at Princeton University’s Law and Public Affairs Program and a 2018 visiting research appointment at the London School of Economics’ Mannheim Center for Criminology and Criminal Justice.
