Professor Meltem Karadağ is affiliated with Gaziantep University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Sociology, since 2019. Her work bridges sociology, cultural studies, and qualitative methodology.
- Doctorate in Sociology (1999-2004, University of Essex)
- Master's (1995-1998) and Bachelor's (1991-1995) degrees from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University
Her research focuses on migration dynamics, urban sociology, cultural capital, and gender studies, often employing Bourdieu's theoretical frameworks and oral history methods. Recent projects examine Syrian refugee integration in Turkish cities and neoliberal transformations in provincial urban spaces.
Her scholarly output explores intersections between transnational migration, cultural identity, and social stratification. She has contributed to debates on cosmopolitan cities, Anatolian conservatism, and reflexivity in sociological practice.
As an educator, she teaches graduate courses in contemporary sociological theory, oral history, and social inequality. She has supervised 8 master's theses on topics like gender in refugee experiences and transnational family strategies.
