Melissa Yang is a Professor and Faculty Lead of Communication at Endicott College’s School of Social Sciences, Communication & Humanities. She advises the Nu Xi chapter of the Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society and advocates for news literacy and digital pedagogy through grant-supported initiatives. Her research focuses on digital parenting, media framing, and parasocial relationships in influencer culture.
Education: Ph.D. in Communication from The Ohio State University.
Teaching Interests: She teaches courses such as Race, Ethnicity, and the Media, Social Impact of the Media, and Global Mass Communication. Her curriculum emphasizes critical media analysis and digital literacy.
Research Themes: Her work explores how media shapes cultural narratives, particularly regarding Asian American representation, low-income immigrant families’ acculturation, and the evolving role of librarians in news literacy education.
Grants & Initiatives: Her involvement in grant-funded projects highlights her commitment to bridging academic and practical applications of media literacy. She has published widely on media’s societal impact, spanning from historical stereotypes to modern digital parenting challenges.
