Melissa Serfass is a Professor and Interim Associate Dean for Information and Technology Services at the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, serving concurrently as Law Library Director. She joined the faculty in 1992 and oversees electronic resources, online databases, and reference services for the law library. Her roles include research liaison to half the law faculty and editor of the Journal of Appellate Practice and Process.
Education: B.A. from Harding University, J.D. from UA Little Rock School of Law, and MALIS from University of South Florida.
Research focuses on legal information systems, appellate practice, and library management. She actively engages with the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL), serving in leadership roles such as chair of the Research Instruction & Patron Services SIS and Computing Services SIS. Notable contributions include award-winning articles on court citation rules and legislative intent analysis.
Awards include the 2002 AALL Outstanding Article Award and 2009 RIPS Star Award. She has presented at national legal library conferences and delivered CLE sessions on legal research topics.
Leverages interdisciplinary expertise in librarianship and law to enhance academic and practitioner resources. Oversees the law library’s dual role as an academic and public county library, supporting diverse user needs through innovative resource management.
