Melissa McDonald is the Associate Dean of Health Sciences at Cape Breton University. She holds a Bachelor of Technology (Environmental Health) from University College of Cape Breton (1998) and a Master of Public Health from Lakehead University (2012). She is certified as a Public Health Inspector. Her professional experience includes roles as an Inspector Specialist focusing on contaminated sites and waste management, and as a Food Safety Specialist ensuring food safety compliance. She teaches in public health programs and has served on local, provincial, and national boards, including the Cape Breton East Community Health Board and the Environmental Health Foundation of Canada.
Her expertise spans environmental health, public health policy, and regulatory compliance. She actively contributes to community health initiatives and environmental stewardship in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaw People.
