Melissa Lucas

Melissa Lucas is Associate Clinical Professor and Co-Director of the Oral Communication Program at University of Maryland. She oversees curriculum development and instructor training for COMM107, taken annually by 4,000+ students. Her research examines communication pedagogy, gender in rhetoric, and online learning challenges.

Education includes a PhD from University of Maryland. Research investigates communication apprehension in online environments and business communication pedagogy. Recent work analyzes student anxiety in synchronous versus asynchronous presentation formats.

Teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in data visualization and instructional communication methods. Serves as ARHU Programs Committee Chair and represents the college on university assessment initiatives.
