Melissa Kiner is a Lecturer in the Psychology Department at SUNY Old Westbury. She holds a Psy.D. in School Psychology from Hofstra University (2009), an M.S. in Psychology from Hofstra University (2001), and a B.A. in Psychology from Binghamton University (2000). She is a New York State Certified School Psychologist (Permanent).
Her research interests focus on psychological assessment, interventions for learning disabilities, functional behavioral assessments, and therapeutic interventions like Parent-Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) and Teacher-Child Interactive Therapy (TCIT). She has published a dissertation titled Children's conflict resolution skills and their perception of interparental conflict.
Prior to her academic role, Kiner held positions including Treatment Coordinator and Crisis Intervention Specialist at The League School (Brooklyn, NY), Psychometrician at The Holliswood Hospital (Hollis, NY), and a School Psychologist Intern in Uniondale Public Schools (Uniondale, NY). She teaches courses ranging from introductory psychology to advanced topics in developmental and social psychology.
Her professional experience spans clinical, educational, and research settings, emphasizing child development and school-based interventions.
