Melissa Kates

Dr. Melissa Kates is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Leadership at Austin Peay State University (APSU), where she has served for 20 years. She previously served as the inaugural Director of CAFE from 2021-2024 and currently contributes to faculty excellence as an ex-officio member of the CAFE Advisory Board. Her professional focus centers on leadership education and institutional development.

She teaches leadership courses and emphasizes collaborative academic environments. Dr. Kates values the APSU community, citing 'the people!' as her favorite aspect of the university. Outside academia, she enjoys the film Princess Bride.
