Melissa Harris serves as Associate Professor at the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, teaching Architectural Design, Architectural Representation, and Architecture for Non-Majors from her office in room 3320.

Harris investigates the relationship between drawing and building through a forty-year sketchbook practice where drawings analyze form and behavior in relation to measuring and describing the built environment. Her research extends to social dimensions of architecture, notably creating the first cadet-level Girl Scout architecture badge, with her accumulated drawings forming the draft manuscript Architect's Sketchbook.

Exhibitions: Juried presentations at NC Museum of Natural Science, Technical University of Vienna, Institute for the Humanities, McGill University, and multiple architecture schools across America.
Research Support and Professional Contributions: Funded by Graham Foundation, Newhouse Foundation, Office of the Vice President for Research, Rackham, Mellon Foundation, and Binda Faculty Development fund. Consulted for Yosemite National Park design guidelines (2005), contributing all drawings, and published in Architecture, Pidgin, Interiors, The Fifth Column, Dimensions, Learning by Building, and The Good House.
