Melissa Galloway

Melissa Galloway serves as an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Lafayette College, holding the prestigious John D. and Frances H. Larkin Scholar of Chemistry position. She is actively engaged in teaching undergraduate chemistry courses and conducting research within the Department of Chemistry.

Her research program focuses on understanding chemical reactions occurring in small atmospheric particles such as clouds and aerosols. Dr. Galloway investigates reactions between simple compounds in these particles, with particular attention to how they produce sunlight-absorbing compounds that influence global climate change. Her laboratory work bridges simplified experimental systems with the complex reality of atmospheric chemistry, providing critical data for predicting human health and environmental impacts.

Dr. Galloway teaches General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, Quantitative Chemical Analysis, Instrumental Analysis, and Environmental Chemistry. Students in her research lab participate in all stages of experimental design and execution, developing into independent scientists through hands-on experience.
