Melissa Dougherty is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and currently serves as Senior Counsel at PNC Bank, specializing in fiduciary law. She previously co-chaired the Trusts, Estates and Wealth Preservation Group at Dentons Cohen & Grigsby, focusing on high-net-worth estate planning, tax matters, and trust administration. Her expertise spans U.S. and international wealth preservation strategies, fiduciary duties, and tax compliance.
Education: JD and BA from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and was recognized on the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers Rising Stars list (2016-2020, 2022-2023). Melissa frequently lectures for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and professional groups, emphasizing practical applications of tax and trust law.
Her recent publications explore the implications of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on GST-exempt trusts, blending tax policy with estate planning innovations. She actively advises corporate fiduciaries and families on succession planning, charitable giving, and cross-border wealth management.
