معرفی
Melanie Waldenberger is a researcher at the Institute of Epidemiology, Helmholtz Zentrum München, German Research Center for Environmental Health and the Institute for Medical Information Processing, Biometry, and Epidemiology (IBE) at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich's Faculty of Medicine.
Her research focuses on molecular epidemiology, particularly examining DNA methylation patterns in relation to diabetic complications. She is currently supervising doctoral research on DNA methylation in diabetic nephropathy through the LMU-CSC Scholarship Program. Dr. Waldenberger's work involves statistical analysis of molecular data from the Cooperative Health Research in the Region of Augsburg (KORA) study, with emphasis on understanding the epigenetic mechanisms underlying diabetic nephropathy, a major complication affecting approximately 40% of diabetes patients worldwide.
Her research employs advanced methodologies including genome-wide DNA methylation analysis, prediction modeling, and Mendelian randomization techniques to assess causality in the relationship between epigenetic markers and disease outcomes. This work addresses a significant global health concern, as diabetes affects over 537 million people worldwide with projections indicating this number will rise to 783 million by 2045.
