Melanie Long

Melanie Long is an Associate Professor of Economics at the College of Wooster, specializing in household finance, gender and feminist economics, and political economy. She holds a B.A. from Westminster College, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Economics from Colorado State University, with fields in Political Economy and Development Economics. Her research focuses on systemic inequality in household debt, access to credit, and its implications on financial security and labor markets.

Professor Long teaches courses such as Economics of Gender, Principles of Economics, and Econometrics. She has advised numerous student projects exploring topics like debt aversion, minority entrepreneurship, and anti-transgender legislation impacts. She has been recognized with awards including the College of Liberal Arts Excellence in Teaching Award (2019) and received grants for DEI initiatives in economics.

Her work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, including presentations at conferences like the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) and the Eastern Economic Association. Her recent research examines monetary policy’s distributional impacts by race and gender, and the role of postal banking in financial inclusion.
