Melanie Petsch is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University and Lead Data Scientist for Regulation at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Her work focuses on financial data analytics, market microstructure, and commodities trading, leveraging her mechanical engineering and business expertise to analyze big data, develop regulatory tools, and improve financial productivity.

Petsch’s research spans quantitative finance, data science, and portfolio management. Notable awards include the Purdue University Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award (2018) and the Journal of Portfolio Management’s Outstanding Article honor. She serves on the Purdue School of Mechanical Engineering Advisory Council since 2019 and previously on the Research Committee of the Q Group and as a trustee for Woodbury College. Petsch also contributes to the Society of Quantitative Analysts and the Greater New York Bridge Association.
