Melanie L. Good is a Teaching Associate Professor and Co-Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh. Her work bridges physics education research and astrophysics, focusing on student learning experiences and exoplanet detection. She co-founded the undergraduate-led Survey of Transiting Extrasolar Planets (STEPUP) group.
Her research explores mindfulness interventions in physics classrooms, pseudoscience literacy among non-science majors, and student problem-solving approaches. She has advised undergraduate researchers including Colin Henchy, Brennon Paik, and Alexi Zukas. Her outreach activities include public lectures on UFO narratives and media commentary on scientific topics.
Dr. Good's astrophysics work involved exoplanet transit detection using the Keeler telescope at Allegheny Observatory, contributing to discoveries like HD 80606b. She holds a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and maintains an active presence in physics education innovation.
