Dr. Melanie Jemison Moser serves as Department Head and Instructional Professor in the Division of Foundational Sciences at Texas A&M University at Galveston. An American Chemical Society Fellow (2010), she specializes in organic chemistry education and curriculum design. Dr. Moser earned her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Houston (1977) and B.S. in Chemistry from Lamar University (1972).
Her teaching philosophy centers on demonstrating chemistry's explanatory power: "Once you know math, physics and chemistry, then you know how the world works. Knowing organic chemistry really pulls it all together." She teaches CHEM 227 (Organic Chemistry I) and CHEM 228 (Organic Chemistry II), emphasizing problem-solving skills and structural analysis.
Beyond academia, Dr. Moser is an accomplished dog agility trainer, viewing the sport as combining physical exercise, mental stimulation, and relationship-building. This interdisciplinary perspective informs her approach to chemical education, where she connects molecular concepts to real-world phenomena.
