Dr. Melanie Chocholek is a Research Fellow at the School of Biology, University of St Andrews, with affiliations to the Scottish Oceans Institute. Her work focuses on environmental science, particularly in carbon emissions, peatland ecology, and radioecology. She has contributed to interdisciplinary projects addressing climate change mitigation, tropical ecosystem management, and marine pollution risks.
Her research interests span tropical peatland dynamics, soil carbon emissions, and the environmental impacts of agricultural practices like oil palm cultivation. She also explores marine radioecology and automated methods for monitoring marine ecosystems, such as scallop stock assessment.
Dr. Chocholek has published widely on topics including peatland management, eddy covariance techniques, and microbial interactions. Her work often integrates field studies with statistical modeling to address ecological challenges. Collaborations include international projects in Southeast Asia and the UK North Sea.
She contributes to the Scottish Oceans Institute, advancing marine and environmental research. Her research aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly climate action and sustainable land/ocean use.
