Melanie Borrego, Ph.D., serves as both a Professor of English and the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at University of Massachusetts Global. Her responsibilities include faculty and student support, student learning assessment, online campus scheduling, adjunct faculty recruitment/mentoring, and General Education program development.

Dr. Borrego's research focuses on educational innovation, particularly in online pedagogy and competency-based education. She has pioneered the integration of technology in writing instruction, developed co-requisite remediation models, and contributed to experiential learning frameworks through her leadership in organizations like the Online Learning Consortium and AAC&U.
Her scholarly work includes a 2015 publication in Hybrid Pedagogy analyzing homeschooling methodologies, alongside committee roles in Prior Learning Assessment and Competency-Based Education Curriculum Councils. She actively participates in institutional initiatives like the GAI Task Force and represents UMass Global in educational technology and innovation sectors.
Currently leading the School of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Borrego has previously held faculty positions at San Jose City College (Associate Professor, 1999-2011) and West Hills Community College (Assistant Professor, 1997-1999).
