Dr. Meixiu Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures at Texas Tech University (TTU), where she also directs the Japanese and Korean programs. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from Northern Arizona University (2018). Her primary research focuses on Corpus Linguistics, Second Language Writing, and Pedagogy, with emphasis on collaborative writing practices, multimodal composition, and the role of learners' first language (L1) in language learning. She employs diverse methodologies including corpus analysis, qualitative research, and meta-analyses.
Her work has been published in journals like Language Teaching, Modern Language Journal, and Journal of Second Language Writing. Dr. Zhang currently serves on the editorial board of Journal of Second Language Writing. She teaches courses such as Corpus Linguistics for Research and Teaching and Collaborative Tasks in L2 Classrooms at TTU. Prior to joining TTU, she taught at Syracuse University and Northern Arizona University.
Her research agenda includes advancing understanding of collaborative writing dynamics, leveraging digital tools for language education, and addressing ethical considerations in quantitative research practices. Notable achievements include the 2020 Honorable Mention for Best Article in Journal of Second Language Writing.
