Meina Liu is a Professor of Communication at George Washington University (Washington, D.C.). Her research focuses on cultural influences in emotional communication, negotiation processes, and health communication, emphasizing cross-cultural dynamics and social constructionist perspectives. She holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University, an M.A. from Tsinghua University, and a B.A. from Beijing Language and Culture University.
Her work explores how emotions like anger and compassion affect negotiation outcomes across cultures, and how communication impacts health and well-being at individual and community levels. She has published in journals such as Communication Research, Negotiation and Conflict Management Research, and Health Communication, and has received multiple awards for her contributions to the field.
Dr. Liu teaches courses including Intercultural Communication, Research Methods in Communication, and Senior Seminar in Communication. Her advising includes students like Zhu, Chen, and Ren, who have contributed to studies on cultural negotiation dynamics and health resilience. She has also collaborated on projects addressing maternity leave policies and bicultural identity negotiations.
Her research spans negotiations in face-to-face vs digital settings, resilience in marginalized groups, and organizational culture impacts on mental health. Awards include recognition from National Communication Association and the International Communication Association for her groundbreaking work in intercultural communication and conflict resolution.
