Mehul Bhatt is a Professor of Computer Science at Örebro University, Sweden, and a Visiting Professor at the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience (FU Berlin). His research focuses on the cognitive and computational foundations of human-centred AI technologies, including spatial cognition, visual perception, and computational cognitive modelling. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from La Trobe University (Australia) and previously served as a Professor at the University of Bremen (Germany).
Key research areas include artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and human-computer interaction, with applications in autonomous systems, architecture design, and media technologies. His work integrates formal methods, reasoning, and learning to address challenges in spatial reasoning, multimodal interaction, and human-centred design.
He has received awards such as the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and DAAD Award. His research has been featured in outlets like The Economist and DW-TV International. He serves as an Area Chair for AI conferences like IJCAI and has led projects funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF).
Past roles include leadership of an AI laboratory at the University of Bremen, focusing on human cognitive abilities and sensory interpretation. He contributes to initiatives like the Center for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS) at Örebro University, advancing interdisciplinary research in AI and cognition.
