Mehmet Saner serves as an Associate Professor at Özyeğin University's Faculty of Architecture and Design, where his academic work bridges architecture, urban planning, and cultural heritage conservation. His research critically examines the socio-spatial dynamics of industrial landscapes and urban voids within evolving city structures.
His educational foundation includes a Doctorate in City and Regional Planning (2014), Master of Architecture (2004), and Bachelor of Architecture (2001), all from Middle East Technical University. During doctoral research, he conducted extended studies at TU Dortmund through a DAAD fellowship.
Dr. Saner's core research pillars—Industrial Heritage, Urban Morphology, and Architectural Criticism—are amplified by specialized expertise in urban voids and the adaptive reuse of industrial structures. His methodological approach combines historical analysis with contemporary spatial theory, particularly examining Ankara's transformation while increasingly incorporating global case studies like Mombasa.
Analysis of his 2023-2025 publications reveals three dominant trajectories: (1) Critical examinations of industrial heritage reuse policy frameworks in Turkey, (2) Cross-cultural studies of urban morphology evolution under colonial/post-colonial influences, and (3) Philosophical inquiries into architectural criticism's role in urban discourse. His work consistently links theoretical rigor with site-specific interventions in post-industrial landscapes.
