Professor Mehmet Ozalp is a leading academic in Islamic studies at Charles Sturt University’s Centre for Islamic Studies and Civilisation, where he serves as Head of School since 2011. He founded both the centre and the Islamic Sciences and Research Academy (ISRA) in Australia, and currently leads the Sydney Islamic Art Museum initiative. As Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Journal of Islamic Studies and co-founder of the Affinity Intercultural Foundation, he bridges academic research with public engagement.
Research Focus: His work spans Islamic theology, Muslim identity formation in Australia, intercultural relations, environmental ethics in Islamic thought, and countering Islamophobia through empirical studies. Key themes include reconciling tradition with modernity and analyzing Australian Muslim communities.
Publications: With over 23 research outputs, his recent works examine contemporary Islamic theological discourse, cultural belonging among Muslim youth, and ecological stewardship. Collaborations with Z. Keskin and Cufurovic highlight interdisciplinary approaches to religious and environmental challenges.
