Meha Jain is an Assistant Professor at the School for Environment and Sustainability, University of Michigan, and a member of the Sustainable Food Systems Initiative. Her research focuses on environmental change impacts on agricultural production, particularly in India, combining remote sensing with geospatial and socio-economic data to analyze farmer adaptation strategies. Key areas include groundwater depletion, climate resilience, and sustainable practices in smallholder systems.
Her work addresses challenges such as wheat adaptation to warming temperatures, fertilizer use efficiency in Bihar, and residue burning emissions. She also explores institutional frameworks influencing crop yields and climate-smart agriculture adoption. Jain collaborates with the Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS) and contributes to interdisciplinary projects on irrigation management, circular migration, and policy design for sustainable agriculture.
Recent research highlights include analyzing satellite data to map crop yields, tillage practices, and cover crop species, while her projects emphasize scaling-up sustainable technologies and mitigating environmental trade-offs in farming systems.
