معرفی
Professor Megan Warin (University of Adelaide) is a medical anthropologist working at the intersection of gender studies, public health, and biosocial approaches to health. Her research program investigates:
- Gender and class differences in obesity, alcohol consumption, and breast cancer
- Public understandings of obesity science (including developmental origins of health and epigenetics)
- Indigenous Australian perspectives on health and embodiment
- Phenomenological approaches to bodily experience
- Disordered eating and the nature of desire
Her work bridges anthropology, gender studies, public health, and science and technology studies to address structural determinants of health and create community-level interventions. She currently supervises Masters and PhD research on topics related to food practices, embodiment, and health.
Recent projects include:
- CIHR Catalyst Grant ($124,912 CAD): Examining pharmaceuticalization as a commercial determinant of health through GLP-1 agonist research
- ARC Discovery Grant (DP250104494): From Oppression to Hope - Reducing Heavy-Drinking with Midlife Women
- ARC Linkage Grant (LP210301337): Situating Care - Addressing Obesity in Disadvantaged Communities (with industry partners The Australian Centre for Social Innovation and Uniting Communities Inc.)
She has developed curriculum resources for the Australian Broadcasting Commission on social determinants of health, and her research emphasizes collective care models over individual behavior change approaches in public health.
